With deep sadness and loss, the LTEN Board of Directors today is paying tribute to a member, friend and colleague Mark Lockett, who passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2023. Mark worked in training and leadership roles in life sciences since 2005, has been a member of LTEN since 2016 and joined the LTEN Board of Directors in 2021.
Greg Adamson, president of the LTEN Board of Directors, remembered his friend and board colleague as someone who cared about others and was dedicated to helping people build better careers through training.
“As it will for a lot of us in LTEN, the news about Mark’s passing hit me hard,” Adamson said. “He’s been a great board member and an even better friend, and his loss is going to leave space in many of our hearts. Mark cared deeply about LTEN and was dedicated to its mission to serve and support life science trainers and organizations. While our immediate concerns are for his family and loved ones, LTEN will find an appropriate way to appreciate, remember and honor Mark’s memory.”
Mark began his career teaching middle school, before transitioning into life sciences training. He most recently was head of commercial training and leadership development for Sanofi. His career in life sciences was comprised of roles for companies including Johnson & Johnson, Biogen, Medivation, Intarcia Therapeutics and Verastem Oncology. Attendees of this past summer’s LTEN Annual Conference will remember the amazing job Mark did hosting the final day of the conference, where he showed his communication skills, good humor and bright personality.
“We’re all reeling from the shock and loss, and memories of Mark are flooding back for everyone who knew him,” said Lauren Harbert, executive director of LTEN. “Mark worked closely with the board, of course, and was an active member on many of our committees. He was someone we could all count on, for a smile, an encouraging word and the selfless care he had for others. Mark was a bright light in all our lives and we’ll remember his spirit forever. Today our thoughts and prayers go to his family, his friends, his colleagues and anyone who knew him or was touched by his work.”
Mark is survived by his wife of 32 years, Cassandra, and their children, Marquis Lockett II and Gabrielle Lockett, as well as his parents, Dave and Ernestine Campbell, and many extended family members and friends.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Myrtle Baptist Church in West Newton, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests scholarship donations in Mark’s memory be made to the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Charitable Arm of the Epsilon Gamma Lambda chapter, the Edward W.
