The Training Tightrope: Developing a Leadership Pipeline
Merissa Goodstein, Sr. Manager US Commercial Leadership and Development Training, Gilead Sciences
By re-evaluating and re-drawing the line on the standard continuum of a Leadership pipeline to include Regional Trainers, we will examine how this approach identifies and develops potential Leaders and also addresses growing concerns such as retention, job satisfaction, engagement and growth opportunities. Using leadership methods taught at Harvard University, TgaS has named this process as “Industry Innovation” “The Training Tightrope” is a metaphor to illustrate the balance needed to keep the primary goal and objective in mind of providing a foundational Regional Trainer program that creates therapeutic experts while also including a novel approach to innovative leadership development. A fine line must be carefully navigated when creating such a robust program.
To navigate The Training Tightrope, we emphasize an Opportunities Approach to training and to asses leadership capabilities. Trainees are given a wide degree of latitude to complete tasks that emphasize critical thinking, presentation skills, written and verbal skills and project management.
NOTE: This event is by invitation-only and open to life sciences trainers and educators working for a pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device or diagnostics manufacturer.
