DIRECTIONS – Lauren Harbert
Our committees play a crucial role in sustaining LTEN
Hello LTEN community, and happy February! Though I do love chocolate, February is not just the month of candy and valentines. It’s also American Heart Month, a reminder to cherish and nurture the heartbeat of our wellbeing.
In sync with this, our members and committees are undeniably the heartbeat of LTEN – the driving force that propels us forward. Just like a healthy heart fuels the body, your passion, commitment and energy fuel the vitality of our network.
This February, I want to spotlight three committees that plan exciting opportunities and resources for LTEN. The work of committees not only levels up your LTEN journey but also infuses it with heart and purpose.
Whether you’re diving into the narrative with the Editorial Board, making a positive impact beyond training with our Charity Committee, or becoming the face of LTEN with the Ambassador Committee, you are at the core of our collective heartbeat.
LTEN Editorial Board: Shaping the Narrative
Sharing knowledge is a key mission of the LTEN network, and our Editorial Board supports that with our knowledge-sharing platform, LTEN Focus on Training
magazine. By joining this dynamic group of members, you have the chance to shape the narrative of our industry, share your insights and contribute to thought leadership.
Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a rising star, your unique perspective adds immense value to our collective knowledge base. This committee is a fantastic opportunity for refining your writing skills, building a professional network and positioning yourself as a thought leader in the life sciences training community.

Charity Committee: Making a Difference Beyond Training
LTEN is not just an organization; it’s a community with a heart. Our Charity Committee provides a meaningful way for members to make a positive impact beyond the realm of training. Over the years, our committee has organized drives that have helped sick children and their families, those in the foster care system and our troops overseas.
By volunteering your time and skills, you can contribute to philanthropic initiatives, support charitable causes and be part of a team dedicated to making a difference. Joining this committee is not just about giving back; it’s about building a sense of purpose and camaraderie within our community. Stay tuned as we will soon announce the 2024 charity of choice!

Ambassador Committee: Building Bridges, Fostering Connections
Our Ambassador Committee is the bridge that connects new LTEN members to the community and resources we offer. As an ambassador, you can represent LTEN at industry events, engage with new and potential members, and foster collaborations.
In case you missed it, let me invite you to check out the Ambassador Committee column from the January 2024 issue of Focus, where Mark Butsavage, LTEN ambassador, shared great information on the committee’s collective goals.
This committee is perfect for those who are passionate about expanding their professional network, enhancing their leadership skills and being the face of LTEN within the life sciences training landscape.
I’m here to help you learn more about the Ambassador Committee, or you can get in touch with Miki White, LTEN membership director, at mwhite@L-TEN.org.
The Beat Goes On
Each of these committees (along with the ones I haven’t told you about yet, but soon will) offers unique benefits and provides you with a platform to grow both personally and professionally. I encourage you to explore these opportunities, connect with fellow members and make the most of your LTEN experience.
Your heartbeat is our rhythm, and together, we’ll make this year unforgettable.
