Learning Content AdMed
The game uses AR to bridge the gap between virtual and physical worlds.
Content is certainly key to education, and when that content is creative and innovative, learning often becomes more memorable. AdMed, winners of the Learning Content category in the 5th Annual LTEN Excellence Awards, earned their honor for finding a fun, high-tech way to train.
AdMed created the North Star scavenger hunt game to help train 500 AbbVie sales representatives, both new and experienced, on core leadership attributes. The game uses augmented reality (AR) to bridge the gap between virtual and physical worlds. For the game, 2D or 3D models can be placed in any live, real-world environment to offer a novel, interactive way to visualize information.
For the AR activity, learners would form into groups of eight. Posters located in the training area would come alive and provide interactive questions and clues to learners when viewed through their iPads. When the teams completed their scavenger hunt, the puzzle pieces formed the AbbVie North Star. The AR was designed to be highly engaging and facilitate knowledge retention, learner understanding and proficiency.
“One challenge encountered in the development of the AR experience was ensuring initial alignment on technology platforms and onboarding those who were less familiar with this new technology,” said Chris Francy, vice president of AdMed. “While learners were excited and willing to participate in the experience, initial training on use was necessary and successful to ensure the best experience possible.”
The AR experience also allowed representatives to work as a team to apply their knowledge in a critical-thinking environment, in a fun and impactful way.
