Hello LTEN community and happy March! As we’re entering the final month in this first quarter of 2024, have you paused to reflect on your accomplishments? What have you learned that might change your path forward?
A little reflection is a good part of spring, as we often prepare for where we’re going by looking back a bit. And for me, reflection this spring has a more personal feel.
I’ve just celebrated my first anniversary as LTEN’s executive director, and I recently spent time reflecting in a similar manner. I’m eager to share a few lessons that I’ve picked up from leading an organization dedicated to advancing learning and development in the life sciences industry.
It has been an exhilarating experience, filled with challenges, triumphs and countless opportunities for growth. I’m happy to offer these five takeaways:
Embrace Change as a Catalyst for Innovation
In the ever-evolving landscape of learning and training, change is not just inevitable; it is the driving force behind innovation. Embracing change with an open mind has allowed us to adapt swiftly to emerging trends and technologies.
Collaboration = Success
The strength of LTEN lies in its community. One of the most significant lessons from my first year has been the profound impact of collaboration. Engaging with our diverse membership base, forging partnerships and fostering a culture of collaboration has proven instrumental in achieving our collective goals.
Prioritize Your Professional Development
As advocates for learning and training, the saying “practice what you preach” is so important. Investing in the professional development of staff and colleagues is paramount.
My first year underscored the importance of continuous learning, both for personal growth and organizational success. By prioritizing professional development initiatives, we ensure that LTEN remains at the forefront of association trends and best practices.
Celebrate Milestones, Big and Small
In the fast-paced world of training and development, it’s crucial to pause and celebrate achievements. Whether it’s a major program launch, a successful eventor the small victories along the way, acknowledging milestones boosts morale and fosters a motivated team spirit.
Celebrating successes, no matter how small, reinforces a culture of appreciation and encourages everyone to strive for excellence.
Be Appreciative
We all know we’re not in this alone, but it’s important to make sure those who support and enable our professional success hear it often. This past year, I’ve made an effort to show my appreciation to my amazing team that supports me and to the leadership I support.
If I haven’t said it enough, I’m thankful for you too. The incredible LTEN community has been welcoming and supportive in this first year, and I know you will continue to be going forward. As I look ahead, I see the collaboration, innovation and shared victories that define LTEN.
Conclusion
As I continue to “level up” in my executive director role, these discoveries serve as valuable experience points for the adventure ahead. I hope you’re finding equally valuable lessons as you look back and plan ahead, and I hope you know LTEN is on the quest with you.
